Hey,
Welcome back to yet another post by Melanin Talks. If you have me on twitter then you’ll know how excited I am to start the Black History Month (BHM) series on my blog. I will incorporate the different BHM posts along with my Blogtober ones that I have prepared. BHM is important to me because when it comes to representation and Black history, I feel as though it’s something that continually needs to be celebrated more (especially for the people at the back). As often it is not spoken a lot about by people. BHM (in the UK) lasts from 1st October – 31st October, whereas in the US it was from 1st February – 28th February.
I will talk about a variety of topics where each will raise awareness and celebrate our beautiful melanin skin, which God has blessed us with. You can look forward to seeing at least 1 BHM post per week, if not more haha. I hope you like the sound of it so far because they’ll be a passionate read.
A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots – Marcus Garvey
Here are the titles of my blog posts for Black History Month at no particular order:
- YSJ ACS: the life of Frederick Douglass
- Being Black: representation matters
- Be Bold: 50 shades of chocolate
- Just Like Me: a list of Black actors
- Film: systematic history of slavery
- Unapologetically Black: celebrating my melanin
- BHM: music and slam poetry (TBC)
- Slavery: British history with Reni Eddo-Lodge
You’re probably sick of me repeating myself, but I really do look forward to you all seeing what I have prepared for the posts above.
Till tomorrow!
Yours Truly,
Melanin Talks x
Looking forward to learning from you! ✨

What an amazing series, and I can’t wait to read them all. I’ve been obsessed with history for the past 10 years and I can’t tell you how exciting it is to learn more and more about history. It’s great that you’re spreading awareness and having your say on these events! What an amazing idea! Alex x

I genuinely can’t wait to be educated as this is a subject I’m not really that clues up on so I want to be educated and aware of it all!
